Since 1989 for three and a half years Dr. Luis Martín-Moreno worked as a postdoc in the Semiconductor Physics Group at the University of Cambridge (United Kingdom) under the supervision of Professor Sir Michael Pepper, where he solved problems related to mesoscopic transport in two-dimensional electron gases. The most relevant results were the discovery of additional quantisation of conductance with a step of a half of the fundamental conductance quantum that occur in the non-linear mode and single-electron tunnelling and Coulomb blockade in tunnel diodes, where Prof. Martin-Moreno conducted theoretical analysis.

In 2010, the researcher started working on two new directions: quantum electrodynamics in waveguides (waveguide QED) and plasmonics in graphene . Just recently, Prof. Martin-Moreno started investigating topological effects in the optical properties of nanostructures with the prediction of the anomalous Hall effect of polaritons in dichalcogenides of transition metals.
