Project objective: Creation of a world-class laboratory at the Moscow State University that will possess staff potential add necessary competences for solving a wide spectrum of fundamental and oriented problems in the field of interaction between femtosecond laser radiation of the visible and the near region of the IR range with nanostructured materials

The practical value of the study

We have conducted an experimental and theoretical research of non-linear optical signal generation in various nano-photonic systems. We have demonstrated a multi-fold amplification of effects, explained the mechanisms of such amplification. We have experimentally researched the interaction of ultra-short pulses with semiconductor meta-surfaces, demonstrated the modification of light intensity and polarisation, determined methods of optical signal modulation at the sub-picosecond scale.

Our researchers have developed a methodology for laser 3D printing. New lenses have been produced for the X-ray range using this technology. Samples of waveguides and multiplexers for Bloch surface waves have been manufactured.

Implemented results of research:

A number of patents for inventions based on experiments conducted by the Laboratory have been obtained.

An internship of an employee of the Laboratory at KU Leuven (Belgium).

An internship of a postgraduate at the Friedrich Schiller University Jena (Germany)

7 Candidates of Science in Physics and Mathematics have been trained.


  • Ioffe Institute (Russia): internships of postgraduates and employees, joint research. Experiments in the optics of nano-structured semiconductor materials at low temperatures.
  • KU Leuven (Belgium), Prof. Victor Moshchalkov's group: research collaboration in near-field microscopy, internships of employees. The distributions of local electromagnetic fields in semiconductor nano-particles have been measured.
  • Friedrich Schiller University Jena (Germany), Prof. Isabelle Staude's group: joint research, internships of employees and postgraduates. Our foreign partners have manufactured a run of samples for experiments in non-linear optics.
