Project objective: Development of the scientific base of constructing ecologically safe and efficient forms of agents for protecting of crops form weeds and impact of diseases with targeted and controlled release of the active agent via usage of biodegradable polymers.

The practical value of the study

  • To construct new generation agricultural agents we have synthesized a batch of destructible polymers ([polyhydroxyalkanoates, PHAs) according to a new technology based on glycerin – large tonnage waste from production of biodiesel, acting upon necessity to increase accessibility and decrease costs.
  • Structures and qualities of polymers of polymers of various composition have been studied.
  • We have selected and studied materials for a mixture base that can act as fillers (clay, peat, sawdust) as well as agents with herbicidal and fungicidal action suitable for pre-emergence application to soil.
  • Our researchers has constructed a pioneering family of herbicides and fungicides in the form of compressed 3D-shapes and granules deposited onto a destructible mixture base with various sets of components.
  • Our researchers have conducted research of kinetics of release of acting agents of pesticides into soil depending on dynamics of destruction of soil base. The research was conducted under laboratory conditions with characterized structure of microbiocenosis of soil.
  • It has been demonstrated that variation of composition and geometry of herbicides and fungicides allows to crate shapes with configurable release of acting agents of various duration of functioning in soils and with configurable delivery of acting substances to plants.
  • We have created the scientific basis for testing efficiency of action of various developed forms of agents in crops of grain and vegetable cultures infected with weeds and causative agents of root rot.

Implemented results of research: Implementation of a lot of constructed experimental forms of prolonged and targeted agents with herbicidal and fungicidal action at the Department of Agrochemistry and Pedology of the Krasnoyarsk State Agricultural University where field testing will be conducted.

Education and career development:

  • One candidate dissertation has been defended.
  • We have organized internships and additional training at the Association of Engineers for Microcontamination Control (Russia), «Bio-Rus» LLC (Russia); «NPO Sintol» LLC on the basis of the All-Russian Research Institute of Agricultural Biotechnology (Russia).
  • Results of the projects are being used in the new learning discipline «Biosecurity» that was launched into the educational process in 2018.
  • Results of the project have been presented at international forums: the 9th International Conference «Biomaterials and nanobiomaterials: «Recent Advances Safety – Toxicology and Ecology Issues» (Greece), the International congress «Biotechnologies: the current state and prospects of development» BioTech World (Russia), the International Symposium on Biopolymers (China PR), the INternational Scientific Conference SGEM Vienna GREEN 2018 (Austria), the 6th Int. Conference on Natural Polymers, Bio-Polymers, Bio-Materials (India).
  • The Siberian Federal University has organized the presentable international scientific conference «Biotechnology of new biomaterials – environment – quality of life».
  • The Laboratory of Innovative Agents and Materials where the project is being implemented serves as the base for educational activities and training of students within the bachelors specialization «Bioengineering and Biotechnology» and the masters programs «Microbiology and Biotechnology», «Plant Physiology».
