The expected result of the scientific research is the achievement of a world-class prototyping of building integrated photovoltaic modules (BIPV) and tandem solar cells, as well as the creation of a scientific and experimental base in the design of large-format devices and methods for stabilizing perovskite semiconductors. The laboratory will function on the leadership positions of the described field of the study.

The research activity of organic optoelectronic devices has been consider of excellence and the Lazio Region has sponsored this activity funding the "Polo Solare Organico della Regione Lazio", namely the Centre for Hybrid and Organic Solar Energy (CHOSE,) where Di Carlo is Director. The aim of the Centre is the study and development of hybrid and organic photovoltaic cells and their industrialization. In the past years the research activity of Di Carlo was devoted to the design of GaN based device and the study of the influence of polarization field in such devices.
Research activities in carbon nanotubes and Graphene have been quite successful leading to the realization cold cathode vacuum triode based on CNT cathode for THz generation and several graphene based solar cells. He was developing a Multiscale Simulation Software for electronic and optoelectronic devices, named TiberCAD, which is now a leading tool for advance device design.
